 ***Colorado Real Estate Commission News!
Licensees who are in a partial three year renewal cycle must only complete 8 hours of the 4-hour CREC Update Course  (2 different courses in two different years), prior to applying to renew a license.  However, once the license is renewed, the licensee must complete 12 hours of the Update Course (3 different courses in three different years) during the new three year renewal cycle.

Please Note:  the 4-hour Annual CREC Update Course IS NOT the Mandatory Ethics course.

***As of April 17, 2008, The CREC Update Course is now an annual requirement, even for newly licensed agents. You may recall that previously agents needed to take the 4 hour class twice in their 3 year license period.  The new deal is all agents (again, even new agents just getting licensed this year) must take the 4 hour class EVERY YEAR.  12 of the 24 hours needed to renew will be the CREC Update Course.  If you are renewing very shortly in 2008 and have already taken two Update Courses (as was previously their requirement),  the Commission will honor the two you have taken plus 16 hours of elective credits.  Then, after you renew, the Update Courses will need to be taken each and every year.  Please make note of this very important change that affects us all!

MEMBER LINKAGE - TOWN HALL MEETING   AUGUST 5TH
CREC Update Course with Oliver Frascona
There are still some spaces left in this required course.  Don't miss the chance to take the CREC Update Course with Oliver.

Beginning August 1st, CREC courses offered from now until December on the PPAR Education Schedule will be the new version 2 of the 2008 Update Course.  If you have already completed an '08 CREC Update Course, you do not need to take this new version in addition to, unless you need another of these required courses to renew this year.  This does count as a different Update course since the versions are different, per Colorado Real Estate Commission.

The Member Linkage Committee will present the NEW VERSION 2 of the 2008 Colorado Real Estate Commission (CREC) Required Update Course on AUGUST 5TH 1:00-5:00 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (Sheraton) with Oliver Frascona.  Space is limited.  Completed form and payment required for registration.   FORM

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® ETHICS REQUIREMENT

The end of the next quadrennial Ethics requirement for N.A.R. ends December 31, 2008.  Sometime between now and then, agents that have not already taken an Ethics course of some kind in 2005, 2006, 2007 or 2008 will need to do so by the date mentioned above.  GRI Ethics, MRE Professional Standards, MRE Overcoming Obstacles, NAR Ethics online at realtor.org, NAR Ethics taken in a classroom or online at VanEd are all acceptable Ethics courses.  The course is not required for license renewal by the Commission, but hours earned for Ethics courses may be used for elective credits toward license renewal.  The Ethics course online at NAR does not offer CE credit, but does fulfill the requirement and is free.  VanEd offers a four hour Ethics as well as the 6 hour GRI Ethics for credit and a fee, PPAR offers the 6 hour GRI Ethics every month.  Course dates are listed on the Education Schedule.  Look for upcoming info on a 4 hour NAR Ethics course in conjunction with our Town Hall meetings this fall!

PUEBLO ASSOCIATION OFFERING DESIGNATION COURSES
The Pueblo Association will offer the CRS 202 on August 7 & 8 at the Association offices.  ABR core and elective courses will be offered at the same location on October 9, 10 and 17th.  Contact Mindy Zundel to register or for more information.  mindyzundel@puebloassocofrealtors.com    719-545-3666

CREC REQUIRED UPDATE COURSES:  NEW INFORMATION BELOW!!

Don't forget your required four hour CREC (Colorado Real Estate Commission) Update course each and every year!  24 hours of continuing education per licensing period are still required.   Colorado Real Estate Commission NOW requires all agents to take an Update Course every year.

**
If an agent missed one of the three CREC Update Courses in his/her licensing period, the Real Estate Commission is requiring them to take the 24 hour Broker Administration Course in lieu of the four hour course missed. Jones Real Estate College (Kaplan) still offers this course in a classroom setting (719-473-0385) or it is available online at VanEd.com.  This 24 hour course is no longer offered at any of the associations in Colorado.  Click on education schedule link above for dates and form.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - FYI

Who must take continuing education?  Brokers renewing an active license, Brokers applying to activate a license & expired licensees applying within 3 years to reinstate their license to active status.
Who is NOT required to complete continuing education?  Licensees renewing an inactive license or converting to inactive status upon renewal.
How do I meet the continuing education requirements?  Each active licensed broker must complete the annual "CREC Update Course" every year during each license period plus electives to total 24 hours of education during the license period.  A licensee may NOT take the same version of the Update course more than once during each year. OR  complete the 24 hour "Brokerage Administration" course OR 24 hour "Broker Transition" course, providing it has not previously been taken during the renewal cycle.  OR  pass the state portion of the broker licensing exam during renewal cycle
When must continuing education be completed?  Before renewing any active license.  Licenses now expire on your anniversary date.  If a licensee has a 2, 21/2 or 3 year license, 24 hours of education still apply.  Before applying to re-activate an inactive license or before applying to reinstate an expired license on active status.  How does a licensee prove completion of continuing education?  Licensees must retain their own file of course completion certificates for at least 4 years.  Licensees DO NOT send certificates to the Real Estate Commission unless you have been audited and requested to do so by them.  The CREC Update Course is a yearly requirement for all active licensees.  If you fail to complete these courses during each renewal cycle and/or you fail to complete the additional hours of elective continuing education during a renewal period, you may be found delinquent on a continuing education random audit and assess a fine under the license law.  Hours in excess of 24 may not be carried forward into the next license period.

PPAR COURSE HOURS TRACKING

When you choose to take an education class through PPAR, your classes will be tracked for you.   PPAR is able to provide reports should you be audited by the Colorado Real Estate Commission.  PPAR does not track courses taken through other entities, therefore, it is your responsibility to keep your own education paperwork.  Even if you take classes at PPAR, you are required to keep all certificates in a personal file of your own.  Another added bonus....you never have to worry if your credits will count when you take classes at PPAR!
